Welcome to Literacy Life

Hi my name is Ada Hines and I am a Literacy Specialist.

I’ve been an English Language Arts Teacher for the Board of Education for over fifteen years. I work with grades 6th through 8th. I graduated from Hofstra University with a Bachelor of Arts in English and a Master Of Science in Literacy.

As an English Language Arts teacher I have encountered many students that struggled with reading and writing. Some students were new students from different countries and others were students that did not understand or grasp the concept of sight words or phonetic training to learn to read. My teaching program consist of teaching English Language Arts and Reading to my students. The sheer joy of on a student’s face after learning to read for the first time is phenomenal.

I also taught adult education in the evening, which assisted my students in learning Life Skills and Reading. For example how to fill out a job application and creating a resume. Also the importance of filling out a check correctly with a distinct signature. My adult learners were excited and always eager to learn. Many wanted learn English in order to get a better a job and or study to take the GED exam.

The programs we offer at Literacy Life is to provide reading and writing for all. I recognized there is a demand for these fundamentals in many of our communities. Our new norm in education is for students to learn at home remotely. The adults that want to learn reading and writing may also take advantage of the programs we are offering. This is a great opportunity for everyone.
